Museum Exhibit 2021

We are so pleased with how the recent exhibit hosted by the Sierra Leone National Museum turned out!

It was one of the most meaningful partnerships African Curator has had yet. We are grateful to Yasmin Metz-Johnson of Yasmin Tells for her brilliant work in installing and curating the exhibit on our behalf. Her creativity and eye for quality helped to make it an exhibit worth seeing. We are grateful for the team at the National Museum, led by Josephine Kargbo and Olivette Barnette, and their team of Tour Guides! They did their best and even went further to extend their hours twice into the weekend, so more people could have access. It wasn’t easy coordinating an exhibit halfway across the world, but thanks to this team, we made it work! All Illustrations by Artist, Samantha Everette.

It was even more pleasing to know that this effort was made possible at the National Museum. There have been many expectations for our National Museum in the past, though we’ve got to add value to it ourselves. It is still our National Museum and it was fitting that one of the Icons showcased, Dr. MCF Easmon, was one of its founders, over 60 years ago.

We can’t emphasize how appreciative we are of all the Guests who visited the Museum to view the exhibit. We extend our thanks to all the individuals and groups who found time to make it there. Most especially to the schools and students that visited. We were delighted each time we learned a school visited, because that always meant students got a chance to see Sierra Leoneans who shaped history and maybe one or more will be inspired to achieve the same or better.

We really hope our exhibit helped to add value to the Sierra Leone National Museum and the importance in telling our own stories, especially within our local communities. Even though the exhibit has ended, we hope the community continues to visit our National Museum and see some of the other interesting exhibits they have.
