Using "icons" as teaching tools

There is great impact in learning, using local resources and being inspired by local heroes. Knowing that heroes and Icons were part of local communities, help to reinforce the fact that anyone can lead impactful lives, regardless of origin.
African Curator works with schools and other learning institutions to develop teaching and learning materials based on the content shared in Sierra Leone Icon books. Some content have also inspired individuals and organizations to create more learning spaces.

In October 2020, the Freetown City Council opened its first FCC Early Learning Adventure Day Care & Nursery Center at Congo Water Market, Wellington. The day care and nursery caters for about 40 children of Market Traders at the Congo Market, aged 0-5 years who receive free early education using hands-on activities designed to promote the development of motor and cognitive abilities. African Curator sent a copy of “20 Icons of Sierra Leone” to the center in early 2021, so that the book is accesible to children there.
